What kind of fraud and money scams should I watch out for?

The following common-sense rules are good to follow to avoid would-be scammers:

  • If possible, DEAL LOCALLY with someone you can meet in person - This one rule will probably curb 99% of all fraudulent scams.
  • NEVER give someone any kind of financial information whether it is a bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal login info, etc.
  • If a seller offers deals involving shipping or escrow services, stay away from them. Also, keep in mind that only a scammer will "GUARANTEE" your transaction.
  • Since BuyMyAsphalt is not involved in the transaction of ANY piece of equipment, we WILL NOT handle payments, guarantee transactions, provide escrow services, or offer "buyer protection" or "seller certification" of any kind. If someone posts that BuyMyAsphalt guarantees a transaction, they are giving a false hope.

Most sellers scams will include but are not limited to one or all of the following:

  • Refusal to meet face-to-face before or backing out of meeting face-to-face before committing to a transaction
  • Escrow service of funds or a "guarantee" or "certificate" of some sort.

Use common sense and be careful!
